Hi, I'm Dr. Sarah Clark!

If you're a library or educational leader who wants to build a better world without burning out, you're in the right place.

My PhD in higher ed Leadership plus 17 years working in academic libraries from the front desk to the Dean’s office taught me a secret I want to share with all of you. You don’t have to be a perfect leader to build a better world. And your school or library definitely doesn’t need to be perfect either.

I know what it’s like to lead a team of skilled educators in a spirit of confidence, excellence, and trust.

But it wasn't always this way...

You're always living your leadership values

Are you being Kind...or "Nice"?

It’s not your fault, but somewhere along the line, society mixed up being kind vs being “nice”, especially when it comes to those of us in the “helping professions”.

However, when you’re acting from a place of “nice” leadership, you focus on solving immediate crises and dodging the hard conversations, without any thought to the deeper issues, or the deeper wounds they create.

A “nice leader” overworks themselves, overthinks their challenges and overwhelms their team in the interest of keeping everything comfortable and safe.

The path of “nice” leadership is tempting, but it will mire you in doubt, dysfunction, and drama. And worse, “nice” leadership leaves the deeper problems unsolved, and your school or library no closer to achieving its mission.

Nice Leadership is Toxic, but Kind Leadership Heals...

If you're anything like me, you want...

  • a burnout-proof leadership practice so you can keep your cool in the toughest times
  •  a drama-free team focused on solving your organization’s big problems
  • the skills to acquire the resources needed to overcome any roadblock

That’s why I created Mastering Challenging Conversations. To help you have the conversations that will help your school or library impact your community for the better.

You don't have to be perfect to build a better world.

You don’t have to have all the answers.

All you need are the right questions, some curiosity, and a goal.
