Do you think you need to do more, but you can’t bring yourself to do any of it?
Are you overwhelmed?
Are you stuck?
Do you feel like a failure?
If so, then you need to stop.
You are on the verge of burnout.
You’ve done enough.
(More than enough actually, which is not a good thing.)
The best decision you can make for your school right now is to do…NOTHING. For at least the next five minutes, but 15 would be better.
Anything else you might decide or do right now will be a mess.
Find a room with a door. Close that door.
Turn off your notifications.
If you’ve got a window, look out it. If not, turn out some lights.
Let your mind flow. First there won’t be much, then emotions may start bubbling up. Worry, anger, sadness, whatever. Welcome them, feel them, and listen to what they have to teach you.
On the other side of the emotions will be calm, or at least more calm than before. Rest in that quiet for as long as you can. Let your mind wander, and enjoy the ride.
When you’re ready, take a deep breath or two, clean up any tears, and check in with yourself. You may not have any magical answers, but you are likely in a better headspace.
Go back to your desk, knowing that whether or not you tick some more things off your list today:
You’ve got this.
You are Amazing.
You are Enough.
Repeat as necessary.
